Göttingen University Hospital
BA-2 Project
ELKI – New Parent-Child Center
New emergency and surgical center for maximum care
About the project
In Göttingen, Phase 2 of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) project includes the construction of a Parent-Child Center (ELKI) and the Pediatric Surgical Center (OPKiZ). The focus here is on providing forward-looking medical care for children and their mothers. All clinical pediatric facilities necessary for the care of critically ill children will be arranged in an optimal spatial and functional layout.
Phase 2 includes the following functional areas:
- On-call rooms
- Entrance area
- Pediatric outpatient clinics
- Pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory
- Pediatric intensive care (ICU/IMC) and general care wards (NST)
- Pediatric Emergency Department
- Pediatric Surgical Center with the Department of Ophthalmology’s Surgical Center
As with Construction Phase 1, the focus here is also on sustainable energy supply.
LIEBERT plans to utilize geothermal energy in combination with heat pump technology and district heating. This ensures efficient use of resources and reduces dependence on conventional energy sources. This holistic approach ensures that the hospital achieves its long-term climate-neutral operational goals.
For building services engineering, maximum availability is considered the top priority. The safety and functionality of the hospital are crucial, especially in the event of a disaster. Therefore, redundant concepts are carefully designed and implemented to ensure continuity of care. By intelligently networking these systems, we create an infrastructure that guarantees maximum reliability even under extreme stress.
