Hybrid timber high-rise building in Künzelsau FREIE UNIVERSITÄT BERLIN, DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, PHARMACY (BCP) Campus extension
About the project
At Freie Universität Berlin, extensive renovation and remodeling work was planned across multiple floors and buildings for the departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Pharmacy.
Scope of Services:
1. Renovation and remodeling of laboratory and office spaces (Takustraße 3)
. Planning and construction management of all utility systems. Trades: Plumbing (including medical gases), heating, HVAC, refrigeration for process cooling, measurement and control technology, electrical engineering, and laboratory technology (for students of organic and inorganic chemistry at the FU Berlin). All premises were renovated with due consideration for asbestos and mineral fiber. Completion: May 2011. Service phases: HOAI § 53, Phases 1–8.
2. Renovation of the Examination Center (1st floor, Fabeckstraße 34–36)
Planning and construction management for all utility systems of the new examination center with 980 m² gross floor area and approximately 150 lab stations. Trades: Plumbing, heating, HVAC, instrumentation and control, electrical engineering. Completion in 2012. Service phases: HOAI § 53, Phases 1–8.
3. Complete renovation of practical training stations / fume hoods (4th and 5th floors, Fabeckstraße)
Planning and construction management for all utility systems. Trades: Plumbing (including medical gases), heating, HVAC, refrigeration for process cooling, measurement and control technology, electrical engineering, and laboratory technology, including dismantling and repair of plumbing fixtures for the conversion and expansion of laboratory workstations (for students of organic and inorganic chemistry at the Free University of Berlin).
As part of the renovation of the laboratory hall with 70 fume hoods and the adjacent laboratories while operations continue, the existing fume hoods and experimental stations will be completely replaced. In addition, the office spaces will be refurbished and new common areas created. All premises will be renovated with due consideration for asbestos and mineral fiber. Completion in 2015. Scope of services: HOAI § 53, Phases 1–8.
4. Feasibility study for renovation options for the entire institute building (Takustraße 3)
Preparation of a feasibility study (plumbing, heating, ventilation, measurement and control technology, electrical engineering, medical gases, laboratory equipment) for the alternatives of renovation or new construction of the entire laboratory university building with a total area of 56,100 m². The premises are to be renovated with due consideration for asbestos and mineral fiber. Scope of work: HOAI § 53, Phases 1–2.
5. Renovation of all risers throughout the entire building during ongoing operations for all utilities (Fabeckstraße).
