NEW BUILDING "FLOAT", MEDIENHAFEN DÜSSELDORF WITH THE ARCHITECT RENZO PIANO NEW OFFICE AND COMMERCIAL BUILDING WITH UNDERGROUND PARKING GARAGE

About the project

On the site between Franziusstraße and Holzstraße in the southern part of Düsseldorf’s Medienhafen, Pritzker Prize laureate and internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano designed the new “FLOAT” office and commercial building. The 200-meter-long building is divided into six individual structures with distinct volumes, connected by a six-story access structure (“Passerelle”) running parallel to Holzstraße on the south side. The upper floors offer office space, while the ground floor is designed for restaurant and retail use.

Green Building

All cooling is provided by geothermal energy via wells. The "Passerelle" is air-conditioned exclusively using electricity generated by photovoltaic modules, which are also integrated into the building structure to provide shade. The cooling energy is thus generated entirely in a CO2-neutral manner.

Goal: long-term, sustainable and highly flexible use

The intelligent hydraulic piping system in the heated and cooled ceilings allows for extremely flexible office layouts at any time, based on the standard grid—without the need for costly modifications to the building services and thus without high investment costs.
