Project FLOAT, Medienhafen Düsseldorf

A striking example of highly innovative, sustainable building technology.

Its building technology is based on the most advanced concepts. Based on Ingenieurbüro Liebert’s plans, the FLOAT project focused entirely on sustainability and ecological usage. Cooling is powered entirely by geothermal energy obtained from wells. The air conditioning in the passerelle (the structure connecting the different buildings) is powered exclusively by electricity from photovoltaic modules, which are attached to the building structure and act as shade. The cooling energy is therefore entirely carbon-neutral. Intelligent hydraulic piping connecting the heating and cooling ceilings facilitates extremely flexible office layouts using a fit-out grid – without time-consuming technical building equipment modifications, and therefore without high investment costs, so that the building can be used for many years in a sustainable, highly flexible manner.

The building’s name, FLOAT, therefore reflects not only its architectural concept, but also its highly flexible building technology – planned by Ingenieurbüro Liebert.
